Whispers and the Roars

I am going to be re-posting some of my older blogs from when I began blogging with some edits and new comments.

Blurb:

***THIS STANDALONE IS BEST ENJOYED WHEN YOU DON’T READ ANY REVIEWS OR SPOILERS BEFORE READING. GOING IN BLIND IS BEST. TRUST ME.***

When my eyes are closed, the monster can’t see me.
When I sing a song in my head, the monster can’t hear me.
When I pretend my bedroom is a playground where I play hide-and-seek, the monster can’t find me.
The darkness should frighten me.
I should worry I’ll find more monsters…monsters scarier than him.
But I’m not afraid.
It’s safe here.
When I’m inside of my head…
He. Can’t. Ever. Touch. Me.

Warning:
Whispers and the Roars is a dark romance. Strong sexual themes and violence, which could trigger emotional distress, are found in this story. The abuse written in this story is graphic and not glossed over, which could be upsetting to some. This story is NOT for everyone. Proceed with caution.

My Review: 5 stars

So this review is going to be a bit different than some of my other reviews because this book was just so amazingly good that I will probably just ramble about the book as much as I can without giving away the plot twist.

Unconditional love, understanding, and ultimate dedication are the themes of this novel. – K. Webster

Kady is a twenty-nine year old woman that is living with demons from her past. She had a terrible childhood and lost her mother when she was young. Her father was abusive and she endured more than anyone, especially a child, should have too.

People in the town judge her. They think that she’s crazy. They think she’s a monster.

She just a broken girl who is trying to get by.

teasers

As you read Kady’s story, you learn about the people in her life that keep her going but you also learn about the people that scare her.

Officer Joe, Agatha, Presley, and Whiskers are the people (and cat) that keep Kady safe. They make her feel at ease and she loves them all.

Then you have Bones. He is her best friend and the person she leans on the most for support. He is there for her anytime she needs him and he never lets her down (except for that one time).

But then you have the people that scare her; Norman, Pascale, and Kenneth. Bones helps keep them away and Yeo used to before he left.

Years ago, her boyfriend Yeo left to go to college. She has refused to talk to him since then, even though she was the one who pushed him to leave. She knows he can do better than her. His family doesn’t understand her and what she has been through and she doesn’t want them judging him for being with her. She just wants what is best for Yeo and she believes that she isn’t what is best for him.

Yeo is now back. After finishing school and becoming a doctor, Yeo wants his life with Kady back but he knows it is going to be a hard fight to get it. He has been keeping up with how she is doing from Bones and Agatha but she always avoids him when he comes to town. He knows Kady thinks he can do better but he only wants her. He was only ever wanted her. Yeo plans to do whatever is needed to get Kady back into his life.

“Love and my moral compass duel in the dark night. Love is more fierce and unstoppable and fucking crazy. Love always wins. That moral compass never stood a chance.”

Overall thoughts:

WOW!! What a book. I can honestly say that in the beginning, I wasn’t totally feeling the book. I kept reading because I know K. Webster’s work and I knew I wasn’t going to be disappointed.

About 46% into the book I started to get very confused. I was like “What in the world is going on?” Then at about 60% I was like “I totally understand now!”

WHAT A PLOT TWIST!!!!

I never saw it coming. Like ever. But once it was reviled, everything made sense.

K. Webster is a genius. This story was amazing but it was also such a hard story to read. I takes you places that no-one would ever willing go and shows you what some people go through. This book is dark and can make you feel uneasy but it is totally worth it.

I wish I could put into words how much I loved this book but words cannot describe how this book made me feel.

At first I was only going to give this book like 3 1/2 stars but then I read the plot twist and everything made sense so…….I give this book 5 huge stars!!!

  1. I love love love the cover to this one. The book sounds great too. I don’t know why but I always like books dealing with abuse. I think it’s because I’ve never personally gone through it so it sheds some light on what some women and men go through. Plus, a lot of the books that I’ve read dealing with it seems empowering at the end even though some who go through it aren’t always so empowered.
