One girl disappeared. After fifteen years, her cold lifeless body was found on the damp forest floor. Not an inch of her was unmarked by the horrors she endured. Alone, malnourished, abused in horrific ways; this was how she died.
One girl was found walking the streets, covered in dirt and scars. She had no memory of who she was, where she came from, or what happened to her. Even though the marks on her body attested to years of heinous abuse, her strength shone through at every turn.
Revenge and justice were sworn.
Years of searching brought up nothing but dead ends. Detective Niko James was too late to save his childhood friend, but he vows not to let down another.
The clock is ticking and the trail is pitch dark.
Pitch Dark is about Detective Niko James. Niko is searching for a girl from his past that he believes was taken 15 years ago. He loved this girl and never gave up on finding her. But when a body is found in the woods and it turns out to be her, he decides that now he must find who did this.
“I vow to you, you will be avenged. I’ll always love you.”
But just when he thinks that his life can’t get any more complicated, a woman is found wondering the streets of town. She has no idea who she is and doesn’t remember anything.
For some reason, Niko is drawn to know this girls story. She is skittish and scared of everything. But there is something about her that drawls him in.
Maybe he wants to try and help this girl since he couldn’t help his friend years ago. Maybe it’s because something about this girl makes him feel connected to the girl from his past.
Throughout the story you get a glimpse of someone named Lelu. You don’t know who she is but you know she has to be connected to Niko and his story somehow. Lelu goes thought terrible situations in this story. It breaks your heart to hear what she goes thought but you have this hope that she will be able to escape her torture.
When everything Niko thought he knew gets thrown out the window, what will he do? Will he be able to save this stranger or will he be too late? Will he ever really learned what happened to the girl he has always loved?
“I was her protector, and she was my North Star, lighting up my world and making it seem less harsh.”
This story was an interesting one for me. Why? Because my opinion of the book changed multiple times thought-out the book.
I would think, this is a 4 star read, then as I read I would say, maybe 3 stars, no maybe 4.5 stars, no 3.5 stars. This happened all thought the story for me. I usually don’t bounce around that much this what I am going to rank a book but for some reason, this book had me bouncing around.
Overall, I liked the book. I liked the storyline and I really liked Niko but it just wasn’t a 5 star read for me (I am very picky with my 5 stars). I have read and will read these authors again. Sometimes you don’t always connect with a book and that’s okay.
