Blurb:
The Voss family is anything but normal. They live in a repurposed church, newly baptized Dollar Voss. The once cancer-stricken mother lives in the basement, the father is married to the mother’s former nurse, the little half-brother isn’t allowed to do or eat anything fun, and the eldest siblings are irritatingly perfect. Then, there’s Merit.
Merit Voss collects trophies she hasn’t earned and secrets her family forces her to keep. While browsing the local antiques shop for her next trophy, she finds Sagan. His wit and unapologetic idealism disarm and spark renewed life into her—until she discovers that he’s completely unavailable. Merit retreats deeper into herself, watching her family from the sidelines, when she learns a secret that no trophy in the world can fix.
Fed up with the lies, Merit decides to shatter the happy family illusion that she’s never been a part of before leaving them behind for good. When her escape plan fails, Merit is forced to deal with the staggering consequences of telling the truth and losing the one boy she loves.
Poignant and powerful, Without Merit explores the layers of lies that tie a family together and the power of love and truth.
My Review:
4 Stars
Merit lives with a very interesting family.
Her mother, who recently fought cancer, lives in the basement.
Her father married her mother’s former nurse.
She has a twin sister who is perfect and nothing like her.
Her older brother does no wrong.
The only person she likes is her 4 year old half-brother.
And to top it all off, she lives in a repurposed church with a giant Jesus statue.
Merit’s family has a lot of secrets and they tell a lot of lies. When Merit gets tired of all the secrets and lies, she lets them all out. She tells everything she knows. Everything her family members don’t know about each other. But what Merit didn’t think about was the aftermath of telling everyone secrets.
She didn’t think about who would be hurt when the secrets got out.
When Merit feels all alone, two random people enter her life, Sagan and Luck. Luck is an odd duck and Sagan is a boy who she secretly starts to fall in love with. These two will help Merit find her way and they will help her discover who she really is.

I just want to say that I love Colleen Hoover and her books. I have never read a Colleen book that I didn’t like. I liked this book. It was a good read, but for me it wasn’t a 5 star read. But I will defiantly read more Colleen in the future.
About the Author:
Colleen Hoover is the New York Times bestselling author of nine novels, including the #1 bestseller, Hopeless. She lives in Texas with her husband and three children. She is the founder of The Bookworm Box, a book subscription service which donates 100% of its proceeds to charity. She also owns The Bookworm Box, a specialty bookstore located in Sulphur Springs, Tx.
Her novel, Confess, the Goodreads Choice Award winner for Best Romance is now available as a show on Go90.com, starring Katie Leclerc and Ryan Cooper.
I’ve never read anything by Colleen Hoover. I see her books around a lot and they seem really intense which I love but completely full of romance which I’m not a great fan of. Maybe I’ll pick one up one day…I’d love a recommendation.

I have yet to read a Colleen Hoover book – I’ve never been offered one and I’m guessing she doesn’t need blog tours 😉

I had to read that blurb three times before I got the people straight. Looks like something I’d like to read.
