April Book Wrap Up

During April I read 11 books. This was a really busy month so I am surprised I read this many. Below are my reviews for each book.

Maybe you will find your next 5 star read below.

Bound By Temptation by Cora Riley

boud

Blurb:

Liliana Scuderi has been in love with Romero from the moment she first saw him. After her sisters were married off for tactical reasons, she hopes she might be allowed to choose a husband for herself, but when her father promises her to a man more than twice her age that hope is crushed. No begging can make him change his mind.

My Review: 3 stars

Lily and Romero are a couple who want to be together but aren’t allowed. They break the rules and risk their lives for love….but is it worth it in the end? You’ll have to read to find out.

Blackstone by J.D. Hollyfield

blackstone

Blurb:

I am meticulous. Structured. A single father.
I obsess over things and crave control.
And when a hot, feisty little woman throws a wrench in my carefully laid out plans, I lose my mind.
My every thought revolves around making her bend to my will—until they become less about her doing things my way and more about just her.
My name is Trevor Blackstone.
I am an obsessive, complicated, demanding man.
People may not understand me, but it doesn’t stop them from wanting me.

My Review: 4 stars

Trevor and Lucy have a quick, sexy story that will also tug at your heart strings a few times.
Trevor is a millionaire. Numbers are his thing. They are also what keeps him from feeling normal.
Lucy is spending the summer trying to find herself at the grandmas old house.
When Trevor and Lucy cross paths for the first time it is it pretty at all.
As time progresses, their relationship progresses as well.
But what happens when someone steps in and changes everything they had going on with a few simple words?
Can everything be saved or is it too late?
This was a quick read. I finished it in one evening. It was exactly what I needed. Now to read the next three!!

Kinda Don’t Care by Lani Lynn Vale

kinda dont care

Blurb:

She’s in a white dress that dances around her ankles, and her hair tumbles in a long sheet of curls down her back. A veil covers her beautiful eyes, and she smiles directly at him. Janie is everything Rafe’s ever imagined she would be on her wedding day.
Breathtaking. Gorgeous. Perfect.
The moment he sees her walking down the aisle towards him, he knows that she’s the one.
Then she passes him, making her way to the man she’s to marry.
A man that wasn’t him.
A man that he knows with one hundred percent certainty isn’t good enough for her.
It seems that her father isn’t the only one who’s having a hard time giving her away. Rafe only wishes he knew why.
Everything about Janie sparks protective instincts he doesn’t feel for anyone, not even his own fiancé.
What he feels for the bride, however, isn’t merely a simple attraction. He knows that something is there just beneath the surface…if only he could reach it.
It has to be something huge, too, otherwise he wouldn’t be drinking whiskey straight from the flask in a church pew and wondering how many years he would do in prison if he shot the groom in front of about a hundred witnesses—half of those being cops.
He was good…but not that good.
A near-death experience cost Rafe almost six months of his memory, but right now he can’t help but feel like a huge mistake is being made on both of their parts. One that’s going to cost him everything.
Then she says I do.

My Review: 4 stars

I am going to start with review with saying make sure you read the authors note at the beginning of the book. It is VERY important to do so!!!
Rafe and Janie…what a story!!
Janie has liked Rafe for as long as she can remember. He’s older, wiser, and mysterious. Not matter what she does, she can’t figure out who the real Rafe is.
Rafe has not had an easy life. He was had to live with the consequences of things his father did and those consequences followed him to places he never thought they would.
Janie and Rafe are hot and cold during this book. Just as they start to get hot, Rafe ends up in the hospital with no memory. Rafe knows that Janie is important to him but no one will tell him who she is or why she is important.
Then Lani adds a PLOT TWIST (but I’m not going to tell you what it is!)
What happens when things start to fall apart? What happens when Rafe can’t remember the last 6 months? Is Janie strong enough to handle what life is about to hand her by herself?
Rafe and Janie do not have an easy story. They both have struggles; they both have grief. This story is about finding true love. About learning that true love will always overcome any obstacle in its way.
Great job Lani!!

Kingston by Dani Rene

kingston

Blurb:

I am arrogant. Insatiable. A single father.
I desire things that would make most people blush.
Normally, I find outlets that allow me to free the sexual beast living within and play to my heart’s content.
And when my voluptuous, innocent assistant starts starving me after a little taste, I decide I’ll let my inner animal feed—on her.
Trouble is, once I have her, I can’t let her go, and that makes things complicated.
My name is Levi Kingston.
I am a dirty, ravenous, greedy man.
People may detest my kinks, but it doesn’t stop them from wanting me.

My Review: 4 stars

Mr. Levi Kingston….what to say about you?
You are a jerk, an a-hole, and so many more names but….I couldn’t help by love you.
Levi Kingston doesn’t do love. After the death of his wife, he realized that he doesn’t want love, he just wants fun.
Kristyn is doing what she needs to do to not only provide for herself, but to help her sick father. Being Levi Kingston’s secretary pays good, but not good enough.
When Levi meets Kristyn in an unlikely place, he makes her an offer she can’t refuse.
Levi and Kristyn have no idea what is in store for them.
What happens when feelings get involved?
What happens when Levi doesn’t know how to react to these feelings?

This is my first Dani Rene book and it won’t be my last!

Happily Ever Alpha: Until Kayla by C.C. Monroe

until kayla

Blurb:

Kayla Mackey
I was ready to run from my loss and find something to make me breathe again.
I didn’t know it could happen. Until Jase.
Jase Riding
I felt desolate and alone when I lost the best part of me. I didn’t know where I would find someone to mend the broken parts in me. That was… Until Kayla.
We met, and with a brief hello and a hushed profanity, we were hooked. I swear we heard thunder when our eyes met.
Boom. And our lives were changed forever.

My Review: 4 stars

If you are looking for a fast, sweet insta-love with no angst. This is the book for you. This is not my typical read but I wanted something fast and simple and this book checked those boxes.

Pearson by K. Webster

pearson

Blurb:

I am selfish. Spoiled. A single father.
I do what I want because I can.
One of my four sons is dating the hot, young little neighbor…
Too bad it won’t last long.
When I want something, I take it—even if it means taking from my son.
My name is Eric Pearson.
I am an unapologetic, egotistical, domineering man.
People may not like me, but it doesn’t stop them from wanting me.

My Review: 4 stars

At the beginning of this book, the author gives you a warning:
“You won’t like this hero” and she was totally right.
My dislike for Eric Pearson was HUGE!!! He’s an arrogant a-hole who takes what he wants and doesn’t ask.
When what he wants is his teenage son’s girlfriend, he takes her too. Plus it helps that he hates her father.
Rowan Wheeler is shocked when Eric Pearson shows interest in her. Why would he want her? She’s an 18 year old virgin and he’s a 45 years old single father of 4.
When they cross paths, it is explosive.
This book isn’t lovey and soft.
It’s dark and hard and cruel and sexy.
I am soooo excited for Wheeler now to round of this series!!
This book is not for the faint of heart and if you even think you might not be able to read it, you might be right.
(There is no underage sex in this book)

Kiss Me Back by Sidney Halston

kiss me back

Blurb:

Lola: I’ve seen the way women in line behind the velvet rope look at William Fox, like he’s an Armani-clad St. Peter at the pearly gates. Except Panic isn’t heaven, and this bouncer is no saint. He’s been tempting me to sin ever since I started working here, but Fox’s slick smile and bad-boy swagger tell me everything I need to know about him. Still, a girl has needs. And Fox looks ready to fulfill every last one—at least for a night. . . .
Fox: I’m not used to being ignored—especially by women—but Lola Daye is different. The pretty bartender with the red lips and icy blue eyes seems perfectly happy pretending I don’t exist. Too bad, because the more she ignores me, the harder I fall. So I’m floored when she answers my drunken, flirty text with a yes. Lola claims she only wants a fling, but after one kiss, our bodies are speaking the same language. And I’m ready to prove that what we have could be forever.

My Review: 4 stars

This was such a sweet story. Lola and Fox are made for each other but they don’t realize it.
They both commit to two months of fun before Lola leaves. But we all know that “fun” with no commitment never works out the way it’s planned.
But Lola is holding a secret that can change everything.
I really enjoyed this story and can’t wait to see what is next.

Wheeler by Ker Dukey

wheeler

Blurb:

I am dark. Calculating. A single father.
I have secrets that would horrify most people.
Stalking is a habit I refuse to break—and what happens after is a sweet reward.
My life is exactly the way I have designed it.
But an undeserving, sick monster is dating my only daughter.
Until I deal with my problem, I can’t truly enjoy everything I’ve created.
My name is Jax Wheeler.
I’m a twisted, evil, insane man.
People may be afraid of me, but it doesn’t stop them from wanting me.

My Review: 4 stars

What did I just read?!?! I am speechless right now.
Wheeler’s book is unlike the other books. There is no way to compare them. The writing style is different. The dark themes are different. The mood of the book is different.
Jax Wheeler is a psychopath and you get a hint of that in Pearson’s book. He’s sick and disturbed and obsessive and possessive.
This book has flashbacks that will explain to you how and why everything is how it is. You learn at the every beginning the answer to a secret from a previous book and when you learn it, your gonna say HOLY SHIT!!!
The things Wheeler does and thinks will mess with your mind. It made me think “How in the world could someone do something like that.” But then you know we live in a crazy world were people so a lot of sick, indescribable things.
This book is a build up. Each chapter you learn a little but more about Wheeler’s character and his past. But also each chapter seems to add a new plot twist or new question for you to think about.
The ending is EVERYTHING!!!!! Everything I hoped it would be and everything I wish it wasn’t. Once you finish this book, you will understand what I am talking about!
Ker is a genius! No other way to put it. How she came up with what she did for this book is beyond me but I am SO glad she did!!!

Drowning by Marni Mann and Gia Riley

drowning

Blurb:  I ran…
From my family, my career, from every dream I ever had.
Until Her.
I tried to protect her.
From the crash.
From the injuries.
From HIM.
Freedom is all what we want.
But it comes with a price.
Because the second we stop running….
We’ll drown.

My Review: 4 strars

Clay and Andi are both running.
One from the law. The other from an abuser.
When they meet on a train, both of their lives will change in ways they never could have imagined.
Clay is determined to keep Andi safe. He has decided he will do whatever is needed to keep her hidden, even if that means moving cities again.
Andi knows that Clay is a good man. Her heart tells her that. Andi is determined to show the world that Clay is the good man she knows he is.
What happens when the past catches up to both of them? Will they make it out alive or will it be too much for them to bear?
Clay and Andi have such a sweet story. I think Marni and Gia did a great job writing this story. They touch on difficult subjects but they address them in a manner that is kind but truthful.
I have read many books from Marni. This is my first book from Gia and it won’t be my last.

Erased

erased.jpg

Blurb:

Joss Parker’s life is a fairytale come true. She’s a concert pianist in New York who lives with her longtime boyfriend and is close with her fiercely protective father—until one fateful night when she is taken in the middle of the night.

In a desperate attempt to access a program that could be a threat to national security, her ability to play the piano is threatened. Her world comes crashing down when her father puts his need to protect a program over his own daughter.

At the last minute, Joss finds herself whisked away by an unlikely ally.

She later lands in the protective custody of none other than small-town bad boy and bar owner Derek Slade. Slade is entrusted to look after Joss and see to it that she hides behind her new persona, Jill, so that bad people don’t find her ever again.

Joss has been erased. Joss is now Jill.

As Joss trades her blond locks for Jill’s mahogany ones, she also takes on the strength of her new persona. Jill is someone who doesn’t put up with crap. Jill doesn’t trust easily. Jill must protect the broken heart of Joss.

Joss and Slade battle an intense attraction, but she isn’t the only one with secrets. Behind Slade’s silver eyes are mysteries he’s unwilling to share. Slade knows better than to get involved with Joss, yet he finds it nearly impossible to push her away.

What happens when Slade crosses the line of protector? Can he protect her when the evils of both of their pasts come back to haunt them?

My Review: 4 stars

Joss is kidnapped in the middle of the night. Why? Because of her father. When she thinks everything is coming to an end, she gets saved by a mystery man.
Slade has been charged with keeping Joss safe while her father tries to deal with his problems.
But Slade ends up with his own problem. Joss. He can’t keep her out of his head. But he know for her safety he needs to keep his distance.
What happens when things go to far and trust gets broken? What happens when the truth comes out?

This was a pretty good read. These two authors seemed to have a good flow in their writings and I of course love K Webster’s books so I know you can’t go wrong with her.

El Malo

el malo .jpg

Blurb:

Javier Estrada is the king of Mexico.
Evil. Twisted. Psychopathic.
A cruel madman with a killer smile.
And he is my boss.

My duty is to blend in, clean his home, and not make a peep.
I’ve done my job well for years.
Imbedded myself so deep in his world, he’s never going to get me out.

But I am this king’s worst nightmare.
Bad men like him took everything away from me.
I will never forget.
He will pay for the sins of many.
I’ll just bide my time—watching, waiting, calculating—until the time is right.

When I strike, he won’t know what hit him.
The monster who rules Mexico with an iron fist may not bow to anyone…
But I’m not just anyone.

He will bow to me.

My Review: 4 stars

Looking for a hot, sexy read between a CIA agent and a Mexican mobster? Then you have the right book.
Rosa is out for revenge. After her mother was killed years ago by some Mexican mobsters, Rosa set out to get revenge. She might not be able to get the mobsters that killed her mom, but she can go after on of the most dangerous men in Mexico, Javier Estrada.
Javier runs his town. People fear him and he wouldn’t have it any other way. For four years, his housekeeper Rosa has kept his house in perfect condition. But something has changed. For some reason, he is now seeing Rosa in a different way.
What happens when lines get crossed? Can Rosa remember why she is there? What happens when the people Rosa thought she could trust turn on her? Will Javier find out the truth?

This was a sexy read. But like most K. Webster books, this book is a dark romance and is not recommended for those with triggers!!!!!

If you can look past those triggers though, you will find a book full of sex, lies, blood, and sex.
LOVED IT!!!
